In 1994 the UN debated the
genocide in Rwanda and whether or not the International Community should
intervene to prevent the escalating murder there.
Despite hearing evidence of the mass murder of
one of the ethnic tribes (the Tutsis) by another (the Hutus), the UN
deliberately avoided labelling the slaughter as “genocide”.
As a result, they avoided their
obligation to protect the Tutsis, and the genocide continued until a local
military force put a stop to it. During this time, up to 1 million people were
killed.
We can never let this happen again. We
cannot let the UN and the EU grossly neglect their responsibilities, while
quibbling over the use of a word.
Sign this petition, demanding that the
EU and UN recognise that the murder of Christian and other minority groups in
Iraq and Syria constitutes a genocide.

Our good friends at ECLJ -
the European Center for Law and Justice - informed us of the critical timing of
an upcoming vote in the EU Parliament on the issue of the genocide of Christians
in the Middle East. This vote will occur on 3rd February, so please consider
their important petition.
______________________________
In the territories occupied by the so-called Islamic State, thousands
of Christians and other minorities have been murdered and hundreds of thousands
have been forced to flee from their homes, and even from their
country.
Twenty years ago, Christians represented 20% of the Iraqi
population. Since then, most of them have been chased away by the attacks. There
are simply no Christians left in Mosul, and, for many years, the few remaining
Christians in the country have become subject to frequent murderous
assaults.
Simply because of their faith.
The EU and UN must recognise these crimes as genocide! We must not
let the EU and UN be accomplices
in this genocide by silence and inaction.
Do you remember what happened in Rwanda?
Sign this petition demanding official recognition and condemnation by
the institutions of the EU and the United Nations, that genocide is currently
being perpetrated by the Islamic State.

The recognition of a genocide imposes on the States and the International
community an obligation to act - an obligation to prevent genocide as
far as possible, to defend attacked communities and to judge and punish those
responsible in front of national and international courts.
And this is precisely why the High Representative of the European Union,
Fréderica Mogherini, recently refused to use the
term genocide. Because, by officially recognising that what is happening
in the Middle East is, in fact, a genocide, the EU and UN
would be forced to
act in a concrete way.
Help stop the bloodshed. We need the international community to stop denying
and resisting what is plain as day.
Sign this petition to implore the institutions of the EU and the UN
to confirm that a genocide is taking place in Iraq and Syria.

Recognition of the genocide is a fundamental step in
ensuring that the international community acts. Some Governments and
Parliaments, such as Lithuania's, have already recognised this genocide.
The time has come for the institutions of the EU and the United
Nations to do the same.
The EU Parliament will vote on this matter on 3rd February, in only a
few short days. And then, the European Council for Human Rights will
meet in March on this issue.
We should urgently demand the official recognition of the killing of
Christian and other ethnic minority groups, as genocide. They need to be
inundated with the voices of concerned citizens.
By signing this petition, your message will reach the leaders and
spokesmen of different political groups in the European Parliament.
Yours sincerely,
Greg Jackson and the whole team at CitizenGO
PS - A genocide is happening as the whole world watches. How can
we remain silent? Sign this petition, and help our brothers and sisters in
