Please pray for the family and friends of a Christian brother brutally
murdered in east Uganda. He was apparently targeted because of his work with
children.
Patrick Ojangole, aged 43, who cared for youngsters who had been disowned
by their families for leaving Islam, was ambushed and killed on Wednesday last
week as he cycled back to Kashebai after visiting relatives in
Palissa.
A friend travelling with him said they were stopped by two women in
burqas sitting by the roadside: three men then appeared and the women produced
swords hidden beneath their clothes. One of the men reminded Patrick he had been
told before to stop his Christian activities and accused him of ‘changing our
children to your religion’.
Patrick’s badly mutilated body was found the next day in a nearby swamp.
His friend managed to escape.
Patrick, a member of a local Pentecostal church, had five children of his
own. Through his farming, he also provided for ten local children ostracised
from their Muslim families. Villagers in Kashebai are said to be extremely
fearful.
- Please ask God to comfort Patrick’s widow and their five children, aged seven to 16. Pray that they will find shelter and rest in the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1), and pray that God would continue to provide for the local children Patrick supported.
- Ask God to strengthen the faith of His people in east Uganda, where several Christians with a Muslim background have been killed or attacked recently.
- Pray that officials in east Uganda will do more to protect Christians and uphold their religious rights in what is a predominantly Christian nation.
