When Marcella first appeared on our screens, I was quite
pleased with what appeared to be a worthy-looking new drama. But it did not take
long for it to descend into the typical, barely comprehensible plot-lines
and convoluted, complex, barely believable, overlapping themes to which we have
had to become accustomed.
Just what is the point of confusing audiences? I am fairly
intelligent and I am made to struggle to follow what is going on. How do those
of lesser intelligence possibly cope? Sometimes myself and my very intelligent
wife cannot cope with the two of us combining our intellects.
Marcella, Scott & Bailey, Silent Witness, Endeavour, Morse
- the list is virtually endless. Spooks, however, was always excellent and if plots could be complex - they were at least, rational.
In fairness, American dramas also do this to the point of
stretching credibility but these are by no means as convoluted as the British
efforts. (Did this all start with Lynda La Plante?)
