A man who killed his aunt by beating her with a garden spade in an attack branded 'brutal beyond belief' was jailed for life on Friday.
Gareth Emery, 25, acted like a 'wild dog' when he punched and stamped on defenceless Anne Dunkley, 68, on her driveway in June last year.
A court heard the retired deputy headteacher suffered 44 injuries to her head and body was hit with the spade until her body was lifeless. He was jailed for life and ordered to spend a minimum of nine years behind bars at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.
Sentencing him, Judge Mark Wall QC said: 'Your actions were like that of a wild dog. The attack was brutal beyond belief.
1) Is this sentence within Bible parameters of the Lex Talionis?
2) How can this crime possibly be called manslaughter?
3) If the manslaughter conviction is accepted as 'diminished responsibility' - this man is SO dangerous - the prospect of him ever being released can surely never be considered. So how do you arrive at a nine year sentence for a 'wild dog'?
