After the Financial Times reported that the EU has increased its Brexit bill to an eye-watering £85billion (€100billion) after France and Germany made stricter demands on how much the UK should pay, Mr Hannan hit back at the claims.
Speaking on Newsnight, Mr Hannan said blasted the “suspiciously round” €100 billion euro bill and said it has been “plucked out of the air for theatrical effect”. He reiterated Theresa May’s claims that “no deal is better than a bad deal” and called for an independent source to work out a Brexit fee.
He added: “The only fair way of resolving a financial issue is to ask an independent tribunal, some international court or an arbitrator, to look at all the assets and all the liabilities, and then both sides agree to abide by the outcome.”
Meanwhile, fellow Newsnight guest Radek Sikorsky, who served as the Polish foreign minister between 2007-14, attacked Theresa May after she claimed she was the victim of a concerted EU effort to influence the upcoming General Election and undermine her negotiating position in Brexit talks. Express.
NB. There will be monies to pay for matters to be settled honourably BUT it is, as yet, unclear as to which side should owe money to the other.
