We've just received the judgment in Kristie's case at Bristol Employment Tribunal. Sadly, the judge ruled against her, rejecting Kristie's claims for discrimination and harassment.
The ruling says that her beliefs are protected by the Equality Act - a significant improvement on other recent judgments that suggested that disagreeing with transgenderism is "not worthy of respect in a democratic society."
However, it claims that Kristie was dismissed because some of the content in the articles she linked to could lead someone to think that Kristie "was hostile towards the LBGT community, and trans people in particular".
No one is saying that she is - all the evidence shows otherwise. But (the logic goes) someone could think this, and that could bring the school into disrepute, and therefore the school was allowed to dismiss Kristie.
At the trial, we presented extensive evidence that the school unashamedly dismissed Kristie for her views, and did not distinguish between Christian beliefs and 'perceived transphobia' in the way the Tribunal now does with hindsight.
For this and other reasons, we will be helping Kristie appeal the decision. It is likely to be a long time before the case is heard again due to a tribunal backlog but we'll update you as we keep pursuing justice for Kristie. |
