Lepra.

Dear Friends.

COVID-19 support is crucial for the vulnerable communities that Lepra works in. Through your support and generosity, the COVID-19 emergency vaccination appeal has so far raised £44,000 - thank you!

After a turbulent start to the COVID-19 vaccination drives in India, headway is finally being made. So far, Lepra has vaccinated 13,000 people affected by leprosy, lymphatic filariasis (LF) and other vulnerable members of society against COVID-19; our initial target was to reach 10,500 people!

In Bangladesh, COVID-19 vaccinations have been delayed due to supplies being withheld for use in India, given the serious situation there. In anticipation of the vaccine becoming available, Lepra staff have prepared a priority list of 2,000 people affected by leprosy to receive it through government support. Lepra will also provide assistance with registering and travel costs to and from the vaccination clinics. In the meantime, community awareness of COVID-19 is being promoted by Lepra's Community Champions. To date, 8,435 self-help group members, and their families and neighbours have been educated about COVID-19 and how to protect against it through these small group meetings at community level. Read more.
