The unbelievable heat waves we’ve been experiencing have certain policymakers crying that we must throw caution to the wind and go all out to replace fossil fuels with so-called renewable sources of energy.
This segment of What’s Ahead argues that action is required but on a practical, scientific basis.
Hard as it is to believe, heat waves are no more common now than they were in the early 1900s. Any rise in global temperatures, which are smaller than heated headlines would lead you to think, can be readily dealt with on a timely basis—no panic justified.
As for emissions, developing countries will continue to employ significantly more fossil fuels.
That’s why the emphasis should be on natural gas, a clean fuel, and on nuclear, which has no emissions issues at all.
The problems are real—but so are the solutions.
