Many Today Do Not Grasp Why God Destroyed Tribes and Wrecked Jerusalem: Two Ways To Look At This.

 As God above all gods, the Lord is perfectly entitled to despise sin and to punish it.

Idolatry is the free choice to abandon God and to spit in His face. That He punishes this with such intensity in the OT is wholly reasonable, even if so many are incapable of seeing this point because they have not opted to study Scripture with an open heart.
Perhaps then, these folk might care to look at what else idolatry meant? Perhaps by looking at it from a 'more modern point of view' they might gain some hint of the truth.
It was not merely 'an aberration' or 'an ill-considered choice.'

Ezekiel 16:
20) “‘And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough? 21) You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.
