Chiang Kai-Shek

... demonised Chiang Kai-Shek who was the non-communist general in China's war lengthy against the Japanese.

Undoubtedly, Chiang was a tough commander and certainly not averse to the temptations of one man rule, BUT he was positively angelic when compared to the likes of butchers Mao Tse Tung and Chou En-Lai across the water.
What is more, Chiang Kai-Shek ruled Taiwan for decades, he turned the island, so coveted by the communists, into a nation with a healthy economy. The Taiwanese are clearly a happy and prosperous people - I visited that impressive nation in 2012 - their only fear is an invasion from across The Taiwan Strait!
It is not known as Free China without good reason.
Chiang was no great general but a man who brought about tremendous results in peace time. He is still revered in Taiwan.
