Reparations: Putting History Into A Balanced Context.

I am heartily fed up of being forced to listen to amoral money-grabbers and their trouble-making acolytes who are hoping to use ancient atrocities as an instrument with which to feed both personal greed and leftist causes.

Slavery, a hundred and fifty years+ ago, has nothing whatsoever to do with today. (Incidentally, we were the leading nation in its abolition and our Christians were at the forefront of campaigning!)
Using their rickety logic, however, it must be moral to punish the Romans for their pillaging and murder and employment of locals as slaves in Britain prior to 410 AD. Clearly, this would have to mean making Italy pay up, today!
(Doesn't sound awfully Christian, does it?)
The logic starts to get even more uncomfortable.
The Germans, led by a vicious Austrian, set off WW2 which resulted in more than 50 million deaths and consequently Germany AND Austria should be forced to make reparations for all of that, today. If not, why not?

To compound this unworkable argument - let us not forget that the slaves Nazis employed: a) Outnumbered all slave numbers ever transported by the UK from Africa and b) Were actually within current lifespans and not ones from old or even ancient History.
Thus - why have they selected a very particular time period? - Dishonest, innit?

The other facet of these 'thought processes' is that punishment must be meted out for the failings of our forefathers. Dangerous stuff!
I wonder if these people would agree with they themselves having to pay for the crimes and debts of their own parents?
Thought not!
