If you want to know the most important reasons why we have so many people unable to find/buy affordable housing - the answer is blindingly obvious but if we state it, we shall no doubt be maliciously deemed 'racist' - and in today's world - that is a threat best avoided. Hence - no publicity.
1) We begin as a tiny set of heavily overcrowded islands. Do the research and look at the numbers of people per square mile compared to other Western nations. Consider too the percentage of our landmass which is covered with hills, mountains and lakes. (Something which makes our stats much worse than those of The Netherlands, inter al.)
2) We have a vast increase of population every ten years almost exclusively by both legal and illegal immigration. Do the research! The numbers will shock you.

I do know that we have desperate needs for more trained people to come to the UK - medical professionals to name but one - but with millions fewer migrants over recent decades - that need would not have been anywhere near as great, in any case. A classic vicious circle.
Immigration must be controlled. Every boatload of criminals crossing the Channel makes the situation several notches worse.
As a compassionate people, we must take our FAIR share of genuine refugees but that leaves no room for ANY migrants entering the UK illegally to be permitted to stay!
Our present absence of policy, not only increases the housing problem but the crime figures must inevitably soar too.
