SIR – The recent terrorist attacks in Israel have given us two terrible insights, neither of which comes as a surprise.
The first is that Hamas, with its random killing of unarmed civilians and use of rape, has no regard for human life.
The second is that there are people in the United States, Britain and Europe who defend this behaviour.
We have seen what would ensue if Israel were defeated – and we now know that many would be supportive.
