Hi, The faces you see in this email are currently missing. Their whereabouts are unknown. Their families don’t know if they are alive or dead. They’re the faces of people who have been forcibly disappeared because of their beliefs, or for speaking up for the rights of others. When someone is ‘disappeared’, they have often been taken by their government or an illegal armed group. They have not been charged with a crime or given access to due legal processes. Sometimes the truth may never be revealed. This is why we must keep documenting evidence, raising their cases and calling for answers. We won’t let their faces or their stories be forgotten. Make my gift Pastor Aarón Méndez Ruiz (pictured centre) has been missing for nearly six years. The pastor worked on the border of Mexico and the United States, running a migrant shelter. It’s a particularly dangerous area where organised criminal groups operate, often moving things like drugs or arms across the border. Pastor Aarón had already blocked an attempted abduction of Cuban asylum seekers from his shelter. But on 3 August 2019, the criminals returned – this time taking Pastor Aarón and his colleague, Alfredo Castillo de Luna. The two men have not been seen since, and there’s never been any real investigation into who is responsible. Will you help those who have been disappeared because of their beliefs, like Pastor Aarón, and others who are being targeted for their faith around the world?
