Ont' sick.

"Huge doubts have been cast over the millions claiming sickness benefit after it emerged that up to nine in ten applicants for the handout are now being turned down.
Tough rules being trialled across the country mean that 65 per cent of new claimants are being told they are fit to work. In some areas the figure is 90 per cent.
Under the old, more lenient, incapacity benefit regime, two thirds of applicants had their claims accepted.
The figures raise huge questions over how many of the 2.6million receiving sickness benefit are genuinely too ill to work.
Critics have long claimed that hundreds of thousands are 'malingering' at home on taxpayer-funded benefits.
Now, every person receiving handouts will have their claims re-assessed between 2010 and 2013 - raising the possibility that many could be declared fit."

Maybe it is just the circles I move in but I know a number of people on Sick Benefits who are clearly extremely deserving. Surely, nobody denies support to the genuine.
Having dumped anybody and everybody onto these numbers to hide unemployment figures under The Major Government - a con happily continuing under Labour - the chickens have come home to roost. People drawing such benefits used to be a not unreasonable 1.3 million. It is impossible to believe that a nation becomes 'twice as sick' within the matter of a decade.
The problem is now a Scriptural one - but without the possibility of a Scriptural resolution. Weeds have been planted deliberately by 'an enemy' amongst the 'good crops'. Just how do we sort them out without damaging the genuine claimants?

Sir Fred Hoyle.

“The likelihood of the formation of life from inanimate matter is one to a number with 40,000 noughts after it ... It is big enough to bury Darwin and the whole theory of evolution ... if the beginnings of life were not random, they must therefore have been the product of purposeful intelligence.”

Sir Fred Hoyle, - Astronomer, Cosmologist and Mathematician, Cambridge University.

[ PS. All good evolutionists are expected to curl their lips in a spiteful sneer whenever the late Sir Fred's name is mentioned!]

Wind Farms.

Christopher Booker puts it so much better than I possibly could. A link to destroy green posturing.

GONE?

I have recently been surprised to see the phrase "Political correctness gone mad" used frequently - particularly in letters to the newspapers.

GONE mad? - It is mad by definition!

The BNP does NOT represent Christianity!

Please remember that the BNP is a secular party and could not reasonably be linked in any manner to what is called the 'Christian Right' in the USA.
They are quick to put on a 'Christian front' whenever deemed necessary - but that is all that it is.

Machiavellian.

The Mail has called Mandelson a 'slithering Machiavelli'.

A tad tactless, wouldn't you say?

A major character flaw?

Sheepishly and to my shame .... I am afraid that I agree.

"Prison doesn't work."

"Prison doesn't work," is stated ad nauseam by the do-gooders, wimps, liberal lefties and assorted others who apparently want to make our society a miserable place to live in.
I can PROVE that 'prison works'.
Take Jimmy Bloggs, who is a seasoned burglar. He commits an average of one offence per day.

He is locked up for seven years and released after five. That is almost two thousand crimes he has been unable to commit.
There is a possibility too that he MAY make a decision that he prefers freedom to jail.
Using our ineffectual community penalties, he is still available for offending over those five years.
Why do criminals offend? - Because they CAN!

Only 6% of conservatives are sellout merchants. 10% are defeatists.
84% are interested in both democracy and common sense. If only the leadership were not so two-faced on this issue.

Vietnam.

After an horrendous 10 day period in Afghastlystan, time is now overdue to compare with the Vietnam War.
Only 10% of South Vietnamese supported the communists [half the total in France in that period!]
A terror group - the Viet Minh [later Vietcong] worked inside the nation to bring it down so that it could be attached to the already communist North run by the dreadful Ho Chi Minh. The will to follow through in that war simply did not exist - and it was lost!
Most afghanis do not support Al Qaeda!
Was the Vietnam War morally correct? - Arguably so. Was it worth 55,000 American dead - surely not!
The war could have been compared to the earlier war in Korea where the UN had stepped in to stop the predations of China and N. Korea in the early 50s - but it was 'too tired' to do the same in Vietnam - where there was good cause to have faith in the much sneered at 'Domino Theory'.
Similarly, Afghanistan is an international concern where, by and large, only the Yanks and Brits are taking it seriously.
Is the war morally justifiable? - I think so. Just about. But where are the other nations?
"We've done our bit - now it's time to quit!"

Bias at the Beeb?

The BBC systematically fails to report on the negatives of the EU-ropean Union.
As it is part funded by that illustrious body, we are constantly reminded that 'He who pays the piper .......'

Leftist double standards.

Just why is the teeshirt on the left a little bit romantic, daring, avant garde - and worst of all - respectable?

Why does the teeshirt on the right provoke revulsion with precisely the same people?

Hypocrites!

Robespierre.

If ever a man was an utter toerag, then Robespierre qualified - and in spades.
[BBC 2 gave us a full and worthy reminder last night of The Reign of Terror between 1793/ 1794.]

Maxim Robespierre became the leading light on the post-revolutionary Committee of Public Safety.
The problem with this appalling individual was that he was an idealist. As I have noted in this Blog before, having ideals is one thing, being a rampant idealist is quite something else.
The latter type are prepared to torture, imprison, kill, butcher and commit atrocities to gain their own ends.
Fortunately for humanity, this dictator was hoisted by his own petard and deservedly perished guiltily on the self same guillotine to which he had committed so many innocents.
Using 'reasoned terror' as a political tool, he was the first in modern times so to do.
He paved a bloody way for: Lenin, Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Che, Pol Pot and countless more.

Sex is an obligation not an option!

A little while ago, I did a count up of all the Christian Ministers I knew, or knew of, in my sphere who had 'gone astray' sexually. There were ten.
Naturally, we are all horrified when this happens but without ever condoning, we must always remember that 'you cannot see inside a marriage' and for every one of these who has weakly and pathetically given in to the kind of temptations which are such an easy target for the devil, there is probably one who has been sexually neglected in their marriage.

In the latter case they are still blameworthy but that blame should rightly be shared. [When have you ever heard that point made in churches?]
The finger-pointing in such situations tends wrongly to have a single target.

For all the so-called sexual freedoms of our age, it is ironic that in many marriages there is probably less sex than in ancient times when feminists did not roam the earth causing trouble to all and women understood this as their primary function in marriage.

The male libido cannot be ignored. The reverse is also true, of course.

Before Dave Wilkerson embarked on his ministry amongst the backstreet druggies and prostitutes, a wise friend spoke to him and his wife together. He told Mrs W that it was essential that she gave David so much sex that he would never fall to the temptations. The advice was sound!

1 Corinthians 7 (New International Version) ... 3] The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4] The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5] Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

When Jesus talks in Mark 10 of a couple being 'one flesh' and this is incorporated into the marriage vows, taken in combination with what Paul wrote, it is abundantly clear that within marriage, sex is not optional.

Cicero speaking of the EU to The Roman Senate.

I have used a part of this quotation before. [Thanks for the reminder, Jane.]

Here it is in full:

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.
But it cannot survive treason from within.
An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.
But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.
A murderer is less to fear.
The traitor is the plague."

Marcus Tullius Cicero.

Community punishments.

I may well have given the erroneous impression that I do not believe in Community Punishments. This indeed is far from the truth.

My problem is with the half-hearted work orders based around five hour days. [Five?]

My problem is with rates of orders being breached which can run in excess of 50%.
My problem is that such breaches rarely result in custody.

My problem with CROs [probation] is that probation officers see themselves as an extra advocate for the criminal classes who have already enjoyed legal aid.

My problem is that in the early stages of an order, a decision will be made as to how many times the offender will be seen. Over a year this might well average out to little more than a rather pathetic visit per month!

My problem is that so many people are classed as 'unable' to do a work order - because "As he is a druggie - you are setting him up to fail!"

My problem is that so many felons are automatically given orders, having failed to respond to them in the past, because amazingly prison will not be a permitted option.

The system is far from rigorous - and I have personally visited bail hostels, various work projects and I was for a number of years a member of The Sheffield Probation Liaison Committee. I know whereof I speak!

Duplicity.

Tory duplicity over the EU has never failed to amaze. From the Macmillan Cabinet suppressing news of its Common Market intentions; Heath's lies between 1973-5; their sacking Thatcher for being out of step on the EC; Major endorsing the Maastricht Treaty whilst 'speaking with forked tongue'; Hague's absurd, fence-sitting slogan - they have invariably supported Brussels ahead of our people.
Cameron is one more on a growing list. His 'promised' referendum on The Lisbon Treaty is an exercise in 'smoke and mirrors'. He knows full well that it will be endorsed before he gets the chance to implement the promise!

No surprise to me.

Did you know that Communist International under Stalinism in the 1930s advanced the proposition that social democracy and fascism were ‘not antipodes but twins’.

Tiger pastor!

Hull midfielder Geovanni is working as a pastor at a Manchester church in his spare time.
The Brazilian, who previously played for Manchester City
, attends the New Hope Fellowship Church in Hulme. Geovanni, 29, also runs football workshops with local children after arriving in Manchester two years ago.
"Deiber (Geovanni) has been working with boys in the local area and doing some great work," Pastor Ezequias Santos, head priest at the church, told the Manchester Evening News.
"Like Kaka, he is a Brazilian player who has kept his faith and remained humble even though his life is now very different to ours.
He wants to be part of the community and help youths develop good behaviour, even though he now has a wealthy background."

Geovanni, who scored eight goals last season, is currently in Italy at Hull's training camp as the club prepare for a second successive campaign in the Barclays Premier League.

In vino veritas?

'The View From Here' by Dave Challice is a book I really must try to get my hands on. I have just read a tremendous review of it in that excellent journal, 'The Flag'.

He describes a happy encounter with olive growers in S. Italy, thus:
' ... over a few litres of wine in the local tavern we eventually got onto politics. I asked them: "What do you think about all those rules and regulations from Brussels?"
They looked at each other and one of them smiled as he filled my glass. "You mean the English Laws?"
"No. I mean all that bureaucracy from the EU."
He set down the bottle. "Allow me to explain ... We call them The English Laws because you're the only ones stupid enough to obey them."

Oh dear. The truth can really hurt. Can't it?

Teacher seriously injures pupil.

The terrible events in Mansfield leave a 14 year old seriously injured in hospital and a teacher on a charge of attempted murder - which will inevitably be reduced to GBH over the course of time.
Only those who have stood in front of a class of louts could possibly understand the true nature of this tragedy.
Over decades, literally tens of thousands of teachers have been driven out of the profession, broken by taunting, abuse, low level disobedience, pig ignorance, idleness, bad language, contempt, violence and even advanced apathy.

What is so amazing is that what occurred yesterday does not happen more frequently - or even regularly!

That is not to defend this man at all - but rather to take all of the circumstances into account.
I would guess that my readers will already know where the true blame for all of this lies.

You KNOW who they are already. You KNOW what they have done to destroy respect, decency and discipline.

In my second week as a student teacher at a sink school in Rotherham, I gently asked a pretty, sweet-looking 12 year old to move some books.
"F**** off, you!" was the response which, coming so out of the blue, shocked me silly.

It got worse. I went to the Senior Mistress to report this whereupon her precise words to me were, "When you get to be more experienced, you will learn to avoid these sort of confrontations." - I was so shocked that I didn't even reiterate that there had been nothing whatsoever to precipitate this.
What a sad world!

Galatians 1 verses 3 - 5. For my all readers.

'Grace and peace to you all from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.'

Envy.
