The Death Penalty.

The recent Harris poll indicates that fewer than a third of the population oppose the death penalty and a referendum on the issue would bring about restoration.
The other small problem is that our 'representatives' have kindly subscribed to an EU ideal which prevents even the possibility. Another democratic triumph from our 'we know best' politicians!
Over decades, abolitionists have had their way and have used a twin argument.
The first part being that 'too many innocents' were being executed. In all their proffered cases - those hanged have proved guilty. This includes Evans & Hanratty. Bentley was slightly unlucky but guilty even so.
The second was to claim that 'statistics prove' that the death penalty does not deter.
I suppose the quintupling of capital murders in the first year after abolition didn't really count!
It is a grossly immoral society which allows a citizen to slaughter another in the full knowledge that their own life may never come under threat!
It is a reasonable estimate that some FIFTEEN THOUSAND extra lives have been lost due to its absence since 1965.
