Mr Cameron has stated publicly that 'the alternative to the European Union for Britain was to be like Norway, which is subject to every rule imposed by Brussels but powerless to influence those rules.'
The sheer dishonesty of this statement almost makes you wonder if he is simply ill-informed - but truly - nobody in his position could be quite that stoopid!
I was involved in research on this matter several years ago when working for an MEP. Four points:
1) The true fact is that Norway has to obey a mere 18% of EU rules - and those in very specific trading areas.
2) The UK is such a giant economy - obeying even a fraction of that 18% would be imponderably too high - provided of course, that we had a real leadership in our nation to 'fight our corner'.
3) Should Britain quit the EU - it must be remembered that we are in a trade DEFICIT with the EU and they would have to play to OUR rules and
4) To pretend that we have 'real influence' at the moment is the purest of dishonesty!
