The Law Society has revoked the booking of a major marriage conference to be hosted by Christian Concern and the World Congress of Families, claiming that the event is contrary to its ‘diversity’ policy.The conference will make the case for traditional marriage and a range of high profile speakers are due to participate at the event including High Court Judge Sir Paul Coleridge.
We are pursuing the matter with the Law Society and seeking to
hold them to the contract into which we have entered.
Desmond Hudson, chief executive of the Law Society, said: “We are proud of our role in promoting diversity in the solicitors’ profession and felt that the content of this conference sat uncomfortably with our stance.”
This seems to be a deliberate censoring of debate surrounding a legitimate, topical and highly significant issue. The impartiality of the Law Society appears to be compromised. It recently stated on twitter: "Gay marriage is the next great civil rights battle".
