Mob mentality: lynchings: vigilante 'justice'.
This incident was just an intense gut reaction - and that is the most frightening of all - mobs are not always known for the accurate directing of their hatreds.
My view is that a more targeted kind of vigilanteism is inevitable when the judiciary, as exemplified in people like Judge Hagen, clinically remove the concept of 'retribution' from sentencing. Just what is wrong with somebody receiving a sentence to'fit the crime'?
What is wrong with somebody receiving 'their just deserts'?
What is wrong with using sentences for 'deterrence'?The principles certainly span both testaments.
Remember:
Society punishs crime.
God only punishes unrepented sin! (Obviously - there is overlap!)
