RSPB Blames Loss of Habitat On Bird Decline.

Dr Mark Eaton, an RSPB scientist, said: ‘It is shocking to think that we’ve lost one in five of the individual birds that we had in the 1960s, especially when you think that the 44million birds we have lost since 1966 is equivalent to the current adult human population of England and Wales.’
Habitat loss is the key reason behind the dramatic decline in many species, while cold winters, which can kill many birds through starvation, have also played a role.

Naturally, 'loss of habitat' plays a significant part in this 'decline' but what of:
1) Prosecutions of gamekeepers for killing a wide variety of raptors which have increased?
2) The unbelievable growth amongst corvidae?
3) The deliberate introduction of extinct raptors into a settled eco-balance?
4) The fact that use of dangerous pesticides has actually fallen?
5) In many areas - ground nesters are plagued by increases in fox numbers.
6) Unchecked grey squirrel numbers?
(In addition, my personal observations show that starlings are 'bucking the trend' contrary to what is stated what is more, domestic cats are on the increase again in my area.)
I am seldom comfortable with RSPB claims which to me, seem to hit the bullseye rather less than an 'outer' on too many occasions.
