Clegg Was Disingenuous.

You have referenda in our country when there’s an important question to answer, when important powers are being transferred to the European Union.

But powers already have been transferred without a referendum in the Single European Act, Maastricht Treaty, Consolidated Treaty, Nice Treaty and Lisbon Treaty.

The Lisbon Treaty is a ‘self-amending’ Treaty, which means that further powers can be transferred under that Treaty.  There may not be another Treaty to vote on. 

We’re already owed a referendum.  And Clegg promised a referendum on the EU before the 2010 General Election, then abstained when one was on the table.
