| The first HS3? Postcard of Woodhead Tunnel held in Thameside Archive |
The North tunnelling to prosperity with HS3? It is a simple idea aimed at boosting
the economy of the North. Dig an expensive tunnel under the Pennines and run
lots of high-speed trains through it carrying commuters and goods
between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Len Tingle BBC.
Certainly 'a simple idea'! What is actually needed is the original M67 to be
built from Mottram Lancashire to the South (North if absolutely the only
alternative) of Sheffield. It should link into the M18/M180. That road is desperately needed to: replace Snake
Pass, Woodhead and to ease traffic on the over-congested M62. Possibly a little
cheaper; an economy booster and incredibly useful. HS3 is a white
elephant.
