Ian Paisley was largely uncompromising as the Protestant leader in Northern Ireland for half a century or more and a
wonderfully representative politician. He was consequently pilloried by the
usual suspects at every opportunity. Even so - he made sure that the rather dodgy peace process worked although it meant kowtowing to murderers. Without his say so, that could not have happened.
Some years ago, I had the privilege of listening to him preach and
to follow up with a quarter of an hour, one to one interview with the man. Bigot? - Not even
close. He was a warm and caring Christian who, in spite of the propaganda,
demonstrated his love for ordinary Roman Catholics. He did not care at all for Catholicism and despised The IRA - but he truly loved individuals who were not protestant - as his Saviour told him to do. Read the leftist diatribes and you could be forgiven for not seeing the real Ian.
