The European
Commission is pumping public cash into think tanks and
trade unions so they will write newspaper articles, hold seminars and publish
reports promoting the EU.
Eurosceptics have blasted the move, saying it will give an unfair
advantage to 'yes' campaigners in the in/out referendum on whether Britain
should stay in the union.
Conservative MP Liam Fox claimed public money was being used to help
lobby decision-makers in Westminster and Washington DC "by
stealth".
He added: "This is EU propaganda on the taxpayer.
"While the citizens of Europe are to various degrees undergoing
programmes of austerity the Commission is blowing millions on propaganda."
