Catalan National Day on Friday is expected to see hundreds of thousands
gather in the streets of Barcelona in the run-up to a plebiscite at the end of
the month on its independence from Spain.
https://euobserver.com/political/130210 I was talking about this to some Basque friends in July who (rather naively, I thought) stated that all of this was pointless as EU-inspired autonomies in Spain could not gain independence. I did not want to get into a deep debate on the matter as I trust my Spanish less these days than I used to but secession is secession. If that is what the Catalans want - it is what they should have. We have a quaint old, English word for the concept (deliberately misrepresented by the left, of course) - normal people call it 'democracy'.
