Mike Hookem, the eurosceptic party’s fisheries spokesman, berated his European Parliament colleagues in a passionate address about the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy.

In 1970, the UK’s sovereign waters were signed over to European control by former prime minister Edward Heath.

The UK’s fishing waters were made a key battleground during the Brexit referendum campaign, producing arguably the most eye-catching moment when Nigel Farage led a flotilla of British fisherman down the Thames.

Discussing the return of Britain’s water, Mr Hookem launched into a passionate tirade aimed at his European counterparts.
