When on the bench as a JP, we did not hear rape cases, of course, they were all destined for Crown Court. Our most difficult to prove in a Magistrates' Court were generally claims of domestic violence.
Child abuse can also be notoriously difficult as proven from the publicity attached to many noteworthy trials in Crown Court.
