Private Medicine.

The 'easily-offended left' launch into their customary tirades of abuse just at the mention of the words private medicine

We hear the frequent claims of 'queue-jumping for the rich'.
Let us have some perspective; let us not forget:
1) The wealthy have already paid for their NHS treatment - with private care they are paying again!
2) Every wealthy person who pays this double premium makes a space in the huge NHS queues.
3) Many of these 'wealthy souls' - aren't. They are pretty ordinary people who have merely opted to take a large proportion of their personal income to purchase insurance. Not a possible choice for all, I do grant you, but for many, this has been their personal choice. Many who can afford this route would rather spend their money elsewhere. Their call.
4) People with their own health plans are also freeing NHS places.
5) The leftist resentment is then directed at the doctors who work in both the NHS and in private medicine. Is this not a free country? Is there not a shortage of doctors? How many doctors would quit the UK and move to a more reasonable country if not permitted this avenue which allows them the chance to earn the dizzy heights of around a quarter of the salary enjoyed by doctors in the USA?

(The arguments made against private schooling are often not dissimilar.)

Incidentally, this Blogger does NOT have any private health plan.
