I Agree, Melanie - Vile, Isn't It?

Lawyers for genocide

The latest lawfare stunts show Britain is the main global exporter of a sanitised agenda of extermination

The attempt by a British law firm to get the British government to un-proscribe Hamas is a stunt. That doesn’t mean it isn’t significant. It is. It’s lawfare. And lawfare has corrupted the law itself into becoming an instrument of the implacable and unspeakable war to exterminate Israel.

The London based firm Riverway Law is acting for Mousa Abu Marzouk, who is considered Hamas’s second-in-command, in a bid to overturn the group’s proscription under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The government proscribed Hamas in its entirety four years years ago. For the previous 20 years, no less, it had made a spurious distinction between Hamas’s political wing, which it permitted, and its terrorist wing, which it banned. Eventually it was forced to accept that there was no distinction. Hamas is a terrorist organisation.

In fact, it’s more than just a terrorist organisation. It declares its intention to destroy Israel and exterminate the Jewish people. It is openly genocidal.

Riverway Law claims that the British government’s ban is “disproportionate”. It calls on the UK to reverse “its morally and legally indefensible policy of siding with the Zionist oppressor against the oppressed people of Palestine”. It claims the ban is “incompatible” with European human rights law and breaches the human rights of Hamas supporters by “unlawfully restricting” their freedom of speech and right to protest.

The application is entirely preposterous. Hamas is inimical to human rights. In no conceivable moral universe can anyone claim a human right to support a genocidal body that commits unspeakable atrocities and says it will carry out more of them.

Although this challenge is being mounted by lawyers, it is not a legal action. It is not an appeal to a court. It is an application to the British government. It is a propaganda exercise to give the lies being told about Israel the ostensible imprimatur of legal respectability.

The lawyers know there’s zero possibility that the government will lift its ban. There has never previously been a formal challenge to it. So why are these lawyers mounting this stunt now?

The answer is as obvious as it is sickening. The successful attack on Israeli civilians on October 7 2023, committed by thousands of Hamas-led Arabs from Gaza, ignited a triumphant and ecstatic belief among Hamas and its supporters across the world that they were finally on their way to destroying Israel.

In the subsequent months of the war that followed, these people with murderous extermination in their hearts were galvanised yet further by the mulish indifference of the police and government to the weekly incitement against Israel and the Jewish people that has been taking place on the streets of London, as well as by the vicious hostility towards Israel of so many parliamentarians.

Hamas and its supporters are on a roll. Across British public life, people have swallowed the lies about Israel and the “Palestinians” hook, line and sinker. The Riverway lawyers describe Hamas as “an organised resistance movement” that represents the “right of the Palestinian people to resist Zionism and the colonisation, occupation, apartheid and genocide carried out in its name”. Every part of that is untrue. Yet a shocking number of British people will be nodding along to this misrepresentation. With no major public body standing up for Israel and for the truth, with no push-back against the overwhelming cacophony of incitement to hatred of Jews and demonisation of Israel, Hamas has seized its chance to push at an open door.

Quite simply, London has has become the western epicentre of Israel Derangement Syndrome. It is also the epicentre of lawfare. This is because London is the crucible of human rights law; and human rights law has provided the legal shock troops of the war to destroy Israel...
