Please pray for a group of 12 Christian men and women in Algeria, who were recently detained and interrogated by the police.
A special police force raided a humanitarian institute east of the coastal city of Oran, where Christians used to meet. The multi-building institute has a chapel where the group once met, but it was sealed by court order in 2021. Since then, the group has used an attached private building.
According to a Middle East Concern report, police came with a search warrant and confiscated documents, personal phones and Christian literature. The men were kept at the police station until the early hours and were ‘intensively interrogated.’ The women were allowed to return home and had to return the following day for interrogation.
A systematic campaign targeting Protestant Christians and churches in Algeria, which began in 2017, continues to intensify. All but one of 47 churches affiliated to the EPA network have either been sealed by authorities or forced to close. More than 50 Christians, mainly church leaders, have faced legal prosecution on religion-related charges.
Pray for church members and their families, that they will know the comfort of God at this difficult time.
Pray that Algerian church leaders would persevere in faith, in the face of increasing challenges.
Pray that the government’s current campaign against Christians will cease.
