At the moment, the tories are probably the better bet with Dave having overseen a fall in membership of around 80% - but do not write off Labour as a longer term possibility. The we-vote-Labour-in-spite-of-everything voters are dying out or finally seeing through those who purport to be on their side. What we need is a resurrection of The Liberal Party (it does still exist - and must not be confused with the Liberal Democrats, obviously.) They could be the sensible left of centre and we could have UKIP as the centre right. Maybe a two party system could work for the people.

Back in the 70s, I visited a local church with my Pastor who was preaching. He asked me to lead the service. We had no discussion of content on the short journey there or before. I opened the service with this text. Shortly after, he preached on it!

Caged Birds.

I was in an ironmongery the other day which was filled with tiny cages, many with birds on their own. A beautiful goldfinch was hopping about in a tiny prison about 10 inches long by 8 broad and 8 high.

I could have cried for the poor little thing. Even for a bird which has long years of domestication behind it, like a budgie or a canary, this would still have been a crime.
