Home Secretary Jacqui Smith became embroiled in further controversy this week over whether the streets are safe.She caused astonishment as she claimed that the Government's "official advice" is not to walk in unfamiliar areas at night.
On the day she boasted of "excellent results" in the latest crime figures, she appeared to admit that the streets are too dangerous for ordinary people to walk in places they do not know!
