One of the best measures of a sick society, is one which abandons truth.
The EU lies to and deceives us systematically; the government lies to us systematically; the BBC lies by omission.
When this comes down to the individual level, at least we can rely on the integrity, openness and veracity of ordinary people - well, can't we?
If my experiences in teaching over three decades have proved anything, it is that for schoolchildren today, the lie has become second nature; for perhaps a majority, the first response - indeed, it is now expected by the teacher when investigating any misdemeanour.
It gets worse. The parents - often those most vociferous about demanding 'good discipline' are often prepared to believe their mendacious offspring as the untruth is repeated. This obviously undermines the authority of the teacher.
It gets worse! Parents now support their children by LYING FOR THEM! This is not at all uncommon.
Even in our Christian school ,such behaviour has crept in.
