David Wright Is Off The Mark.

In his letter to the Yorkshire Post yesterday, David Wright rightly lambasts the present honours system but adds:
'Admittedly, there is the occasional exception of a genuine do-gooder who quite rightly gets recognition.'
NOOOOOO! The last thing we must ever do is to reward 'do-gooders'!
Reward the meddlers and the problem causers? Reward the know-it-alls and the self-righteous? Reward the soppy liberals and the terminally well-meaning? Good grief NO!
On the other hand - people who actually 'do good' should of course, be rewarded.
Let us always make the essential distinction. Maybe Mr Wright had simply not recognised that 'do-gooder' is almost exclusively a pejorative term!
