Food Waste.

Seven million tons of food, worth more than £10billion, is wasted every year in the UK, according to a report by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The report warns that three quarters of vegetables grown in Britain never get eaten. The report says that the average family will waste around £24,000 over a lifetime. (Mail)
How can you possibly work out a figure like this, I ask myself?
That there is far too much waste and that sell by dates are often absurd is not up for debate but let me say that food wasted in my house over a lifetime will struggle to hit the high hundreds.
Only potato salad and the odd lettuce tend to get the old heave-ho chez nous.
Questions are asked if a pepper, apple or tomato is ever allowed to go off and on the rare occasions that this does happen - it usually comes from items bought at half price or less on the marked down section.
I have no recollection of anything else ever having been wasted in our home.
We have a moral obligation to the LEDCs NOT to waste food.
