From: John Fisher, Harrogate.
RECENT letters have complained of the increased immigration over the years and this cannot be levelled only at a Labour government. No government in the last 40 years has had the nerve to ask the country if they would like to have a multicultural society imposed on them. This has been achieved with the complicity of all three parties and now their main interest is to assiduously ignore the problems they created. Britain’s attempt to control its borders has been a complete disaster with thousands of foreign students arriving every year, with no way of checking if they have left the country.
The number of illegal immigrants entering the country is also unknown and all this is adding to an uncontrolled, expanding population which in turn is putting pressure on essential services.
I would suggest the following: only English language should be used for teaching and providing information in ethnic minority communities; forced marriages should be made illegal and arranged marriages should be viewed as a contravention of the human rights of the persons who are deprived of the right to choose a spouse.
If these basic actions had been taken in the 1960s, it is doubtful we would be facing the divided ethnic communities which are increasingly blighting our inner cities. (Yorkshire Post)
