Making The Facts Fit The Theory.

A friend of mine subscribes to the view that people from centre to right take the facts and arrive at an opinion but those left of centre begin with a conclusion and try to make the facts fit.
I am genuinely struggling to find any fundamental flaw in his hypothesis.
