Labour & Immigration.

From: Ann L Dawson, Park Dale, Menston. Yorks Post.I WAS interested to read (Yorkshire Post, November 14) that Jack Straw thought that mass immigration was a spectacular mistake. He seems to lay the blame on advice given by the Home Office, and not of course really his fault. I’m afraid it was his fault as he took the decision, without perhaps really fully questioning it. That is what he is paid to do – to get it right!
In the same article, David Blunkett is quoted as saying that he was unhappy that the Roma groups who had settled in Sheffield were not to his liking. I seem to remember that this was the man who, when he was in office, could see no limit on immigration into the UK.
Am I cynical in thinking that the real reason for Labour encouraging immigration was that sometime in the future the migrants were likely to vote for them and as a consequence they would remain in office? Do others agree?
