In the temptation of Christ in the wilderness the devil says
to Him, "If thou art the Son of God..." And this is
repeated.
'If' conveys unreasonable doubt. The father of the demon-possessed boy said to Jesus, "IF you can..." (Referring to casting out the
demon.) His doubt is unreasonable.
The leper, however, in Mark 1, uses 'if' rather differently.
"IF you are willing, you can make me clean," This is an 'if' of
faith.
'If' is a very big word in the Scriptures.
