It’s best to be in the EU and able to influence
it.
What influence? Britain has
opposed 55 measures in the Council of Ministers since 1996. On every single one, we have been outvoted
and it has become law anyway. Our voting
power goes down year on year: in the Council of Ministers it has gone from 17%
to 8%, in the European Parliament from 20% to 9.5% and in the Commission from
15% to 4%.
We’ve
lost our seat at the World Trade Organisation because we’re in the
EU +
the fact, we have so few MEPS relative to our size - we can never win a thing in
the EU Parliament, anyway!
