Jesus The Indulgent?

It is frequently claimed today that Jesus 'accepts us just as we are'. Pardon me if I express just a few doubts about that. Does it not rather suggest that He is like the indulgent parent who will put up with anything from a wayward child?
True the father forgave the prodigal and we can be assured that we have forgiveness awaiting us - but only on the same grounds as was the case with that young man - REPENTANCE. Staying the same - unless we happen to be perfect - just will not do.
 Consider how many times Jesus told the disciples off for their folly and absence of compassion. If they were oft times in disgrace then as far as we are concerned ...
