I was a JP in our courts for a decade. I must say that this statistic in the title looks about right - maybe slightly above the three to one ratio I had lodged in my own mind. I recall one case where a shrew of a wife had violently struck her husband - and he had hit her back and quite probably not as hard. The man was charged and the woman was not! This may have been the most extreme example I saw but there were many others where you had to ask yourself why only one party had been charged. In that particular case the man had been advised by his solicitor to plead guilty as his case was unwinnable. Me? - I actually believe in equality - and yes I do know that men are better built for use of force than many women. But how can the difference be all that great if we have women police officers and soldiers?
