Torrevieja.

A short while ago, I went to see a festival on the streets of this Costa Blanca city. It was fun and a massive celebration of Spanishness. More than 50% of the participants who sang with gusto and danced through the streets were under 25. They sang in praise of their city and of their country. To see their patriotism and pride was a beautiful thing to the neutral observer.
Just imagine if we had similar celebrations in the UK, however. There would be wall-to-wall po-faced loons of leftist persuasion accusing us of 'covert racism' and 'rampant, dangerous, rightwing nationalism.'
All were welcome at the parade, however. (Clearly, members of the various racial cliques in the city had chosen not to attend - but it was obvious that they would have received a mighty welcome if they had chosen to do so). When the revellers sang "Spain is the best" - I thought how we are all entitled to think like that. Such pride binds a community and a nation together.
