Absolutely fine. That is his choice and he is entitled to make it BUT this Irishman must never again be an England ODI captain. Moreover, he will have to fight his way into any future England team based on his batting form alone - which rather suggests that he may not make the cut.
Anything else is unfair to those players who are prepared to tour.
