When society
sends out the wrong message on immigration and asylum, this is what
happens.
The Left talk about being
caring, humane and helping those fleeing persecution. Well we should all be
caring and humane, but we need to understand the nature of what's going on in
Calais.
Those fleeing
war in Syria who are sick, elderly, infirm, children, vulnerable, widowed,
orphaned, poor, destitute, are generally to be found in refugee camps in
countries like Jordan and Lebanon.
Those in Calais often aren't
Syrian, they've had the money to cross many national borders, and they're
clearly healthy. Some of them are freeloaders, pretending to be Syrian to get to
the UK. Some of them will be radicalised and a threat to our security. All of
them have ignored international law and haven't claimed asylum in the first safe
country they've come to.
I believe we should be a society
which is genuinely caring. Let's help the people in the refugee camps who are
not in a place of safety, who have nowhere else to go, and have no other
options.
Let's not be monumentally stupid
by encouraging people to illegally come to the UK through Calais. It's pretty
simple:
1. Anyone coming here illegally
through Calais should be deported.
2. Let's put in the resources we
need to stop people coming here from Calais. Even if that means using the Army
to do it.
When the message gets out that
Brexit Britain helps the needy but doesn't tolerate those who want to subvert
our legal system, the frightening situation in Calais will
end.
Let's act first, before someone
dies.
