A Christian father has just been brutally assaulted by the
gang he accuses of abducting and raping his daughter. And still the police in
Pakistan refuse to arrest their attackers.
Please pray for Gulzar and his daughter: she has been repeatedly raped
over several months and Gulzar has broken legs and a serious head
injury.
Punjab police are refusing to comply with a court order that they should
arrest the four men Gulzar accuses of snatching his 27-year-old daughter. She
had testified in court that she was kidnapped, raped, forcibly converted to
Islam and forced to marry a Muslim. She managed to escape last month when her
captors forgot to lock a door.
Three days after a judge ordered police to arrest the suspects, two of
the accused shot and beat Gulzar. They claimed his daughter had voluntarily
converted to Islam and married.
Gulzar’s attackers have warned him to withdraw the case against them,
threatening him and his sons. More than 20 Islamic clerics have pressured police
to hand Gulzar’s daughter back to her Muslim ‘husband’.
‘They may try again to kill me,’ says Gulzar, ‘but I will not stop from
knocking on the doors of justice to avenge my daughter’s dishonour.’ Release
