Islamist
militants al-Shabaab have admitted killing six Christians in a
grenade and gun attack on a northern border town in the early hours of yesterday
morning.
Please pray for believers in Mandera on the Somali border as extremists
continue their campaign to force Christians out of the
area.
One survivor said that many lives were saved because of the swift
response from police reservists stationed near the residential block targeted
by al-Shabaab.
This is the latest in a number of attacks targeting Christians in the
Mandera area. Al-Shabaab killed 38 non-Muslims at a quarry in Kormey, nine miles from
Mandera, in December 2014. Almost all of those killed were Christians. Ten days
earlier, at least 19 Christians were shot dead after being pulled off a bushijacked near
Mandera.
The BBC reports that Muslims in Kenya’s north-east increasingly see al-Shabaab as a threat to their own interests, and are
seeking to improve relations with local Christians. Many of these Christians are
skilled workers who have moved into the region, one of Kenya’s poorest, to work
in its schools and hospitals.
- Ask God to bind up the broken-hearted in Mandera, and protect His people there.
- Thank God for collaborative efforts in north-east Kenya to curb the extremist threat.
- Pray for wisdom for the Kenyan Government, military and police as they tackle extremism. Release Int.
