Archbishop warns Christians could be ‘extinguished’ as Prince Charles describes heartbreak.
CHRISTIANITY could be wiped out in certain regions a leading Archbishop has warned as Prince Charles said the plight of families forced to flee their homes was "heartbreaking".
Archbishop Issam John Darwish, the Melkite Catholic Archbishop of Zahle, Furzol and Bekaa, which spans the Lebanon-Syria border said the number of Christians in the region has plummeted.
Before the Syrian civil war broke out the country's Christians numbered around two million but it is estimated that more than 700,000 of them have left during the bitter six-year conflict.
During a service, with Prince Charles in the congregation, the Archbishop said extremist terrorists "could extinguish the light of Christian presence" from the region.
