2) ABANDONMENT - where, based on Point 1 - anything in the Christian Faith which does not resonate with any 'new assumption' will be modified or jettisoned.
3) ADAPTATION - is where something new is assumed and something old is abandoned. Where the new is heavily adapted so that it may retain the appearance of genuine Christianity but will have been significantly modified - often making the original Church teaching wholly unrecognisable and meaningless.
4) ASSIMILATION - where what remains is absorbed by the modern world and effectively taken over.
What is passed off as Christianity is no more than a reflection of the world's own ideals in something which looks outwardly Christian - but isn't really. Christian words (often with weakened or even totally different meanings) are used but the Christian content has been excised.
(The Marcusian strategy 'to break the established universe of all meaning'.)
Blogger: this is my own slight revision of an idea for which the late and outstanding Reverend Melvin Tinker must be awarded all the credit.
