Blogger: most older people have a perspective on life and History which is greatly undervalued. Only the more extreme leftists - and their historians - fall outside these parameters.
Let us take NATO, for one. Younger people have not been well educated about the Cold War and a majority have precious little idea how vital this organisation was in the prevention of nuclear war during the 35 year period post-Yalta, after the West had foolishly abandoned many sovereign states to Stalin - largely because of the weakness of a dying FD Roosevelt, at the aforementioned conference.
The last three generations have little idea about the relief of many when Japan was blasted out of WW2 at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Indeed, so great was Nippon's resolve to keep on fighting that even the demolition of Hiroshima was insufficient to deter Tojo, Hirohito and co. Nagasaki was the final straw.
The USA was able to use nuclear bombs ONLY BECAUSE there was zero threat of reciprocation. (As my Dad was scheduled to go to fight the Japanese after VE Day, August 1945 was tremendous for him. Without that scenario, I may not even have existed to write this piece.
